Rare golden-yellow King Penguin spotted, baffling observers
Original: Yves also found a golden King Penguin (albino, so it appears yellow-white) EDIT: not necessarily albino. apparently this
A photographer known as Yves has documented a golden-coloured King Penguin, its feathers appearing yellow-white instead of the species' usual black and white. Initial suggestions that the bird is albino were revised, with observers noting it may instead have leucism, a condition that reduces pigment. A rare yellow penguin has previously bewildered scientists, and the striking images are drawing widespread attention.
Why now: Striking photos of an unusually coloured penguin are rare, and the debate over whether it is albino or leucistic is fuelling interest.
