Pete Hegseth appoints Elon Musk to future of warfare taskforce

Original: Pete Hegseth appoints Elon Musk to US taskforce on future of warfare

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has appointed Elon Musk to a taskforce on the future of warfare. The move places the tech billionaire at the heart of Pentagon planning on how emerging technologies will shape military conflict. Critics are likely to question Musk's influence in government given his business interests and lack of military background, while supporters view it as a push to modernise defence.

Why now: The unusual appointment of a high-profile tech billionaire to a Pentagon war-planning role is sparking debate about conflicts of interest and military modernisation.
