SUTD robot glides like a maple seed and sails on water
Original: SUTD researchers develop robot that falls like a maple seed and sails like a boat
Researchers at the Singapore University of Technology and Design have developed a small robot that descends by spinning like a falling maple seed and can then move across water like a boat. The dual-mode design suggests potential uses for distributing sensors or payloads from the air and continuing operations on water. The work was announced via science news services EurekAlert and Asia Research News.
Why now: The novel bio-inspired design of a robot that both glides and sails has caught attention in robotics and science media.
