Hegseth Speech Built Around Culture War Flashpoints
Original: Hegseth speech leans on culture war flashpoints
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a speech that leaned heavily on culture war themes, according to NPR coverage. The address reportedly framed defence policy around polarising social and political flashpoints rather than sticking strictly to military matters. Commentators are weighing what the approach signals about how the Pentagon is being positioned in America's broader political battles.
Why now: A sitting defence secretary using politically charged cultural themes in a major speech is drawing attention and debate.
