Experts urge WHO to declare climate crisis a health emergency
Original: Call for the WHO to declare the climate crisis a public health emergency of international concern
Health experts are calling on the World Health Organization to formally declare the climate crisis a public health emergency of international concern. The appeal argues that climate change is already driving disease, heat deaths and pressure on health systems worldwide, and that it should be treated with the same urgency as major disease outbreaks, prompting debate over whether existing global emergency frameworks should be extended to environmental threats.
Why now: Growing concern that climate change is causing direct, immediate harm to human health worldwide is pushing calls for stronger international action.
