Startup to pay prosthetic users to train robots
Original: Exclusive / Solving for the hand: Startup wants to pay prosthetic users to teach robots
A startup is launching a program that pays people who use prosthetic hands to help train robots. Prosthetic users would demonstrate dexterous hand movements, giving robot systems data on manipulation that is hard to replicate in the lab. The approach taps a user base with deep practical knowledge of how artificial hands work in daily life, and turns that expertise into paid work for the robotics industry.
Why now: Robotics companies are racing to source human manipulation data for training dexterous robots, making this unusual paid-participant model novel.
