US and coalition partners end military mission in Iraq
Original: US, coalition partners conclude military mission in Iraq: Pentagon
The Pentagon says the United States and its coalition partners have concluded their military mission in Iraq. The announcement marks the formal end of a multinational mission that began years ago to fight the Islamic State group. Details about the future US troop presence in the country were not immediately given.
Why now: It signals a major shift in the US military footprint in the Middle East and in Iraq's sovereignty over its security.
