SpaceX Launches NROL-97 Mission for US Spy Agency

Original: NROL-97 Mission

SpaceX is flying the NROL-97 mission, a classified launch on behalf of the US National Reconnaissance Office. The mission is part of the NRO's ongoing programme of deploying surveillance and intelligence satellites with commercial launch providers. Details about the satellite's purpose and orbit remain undisclosed, as is standard for national security payloads.

Why now: A new classified national security launch naturally draws attention because its purpose is secret.
