Players pilot a spaceship by slinging it around gravitational fields, using orbital mechanics rather than direct steering to navigate. Early commenters are drawn to the simple physics-based concept, which echoes classics like Osmos and Gravity Wars, praising the elegant idea of gravity as the main gameplay mechanic.","why":"A physics-based browser game with a fresh orbital-mechanics mechanic is spreading by word of mouth among tech and gaming communities.","tone":"positive","entities":["Hole Punch","Notorious BFG"],"summarized_at":"2026-10-03T18:35:54.772855Z","meta":{"via":"scan","lang":"en","link":"https://notoriousbfg.com/hole-punch/","term":"hbo","hn_id":"49946393","comments":48},"nw":null,"promo":null,"kind":null,"importance":null,"hidden":false,"hide_reason":null,"judged_at":null,"title_en":"Hole Punch: gravity-slingshot spaceship game draws attention","section_name":"Science","category_name":"Space","timeline":[{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T18:35:39.660140Z","rank":28,"volume":3},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T18:50:39.620978Z","rank":26,"volume":12},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T19:05:39.679340Z","rank":24,"volume":18},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T19:10:15.737544Z","rank":7,"volume":22},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T19:20:39.687515Z","rank":24,"volume":24},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T19:35:39.654391Z","rank":22,"volume":29},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T19:50:39.684471Z","rank":20,"volume":40},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:05:39.961409Z","rank":19,"volume":54},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:20:43.446678Z","rank":16,"volume":69},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:33:17.951567Z","rank":5,"volume":81},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:35:39.612548Z","rank":14,"volume":82},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:50:43.353661Z","rank":15,"volume":93},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:05:44.010650Z","rank":12,"volume":110},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:20:42.943636Z","rank":11,"volume":121},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:35:41.937638Z","rank":13,"volume":126},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:50:41.999055Z","rank":10,"volume":133},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:56:06.281872Z","rank":3,"volume":137},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:05:41.473218Z","rank":11,"volume":137},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:20:43.220277Z","rank":4,"volume":153},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:24:09.673745Z","rank":11,"volume":155},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:35:41.534480Z","rank":2,"volume":166},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:50:43.634804Z","rank":2,"volume":171},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T23:05:41.147785Z","rank":2,"volume":186}],"posts":[{"platform":"hn","url":"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49946393","author":"trwhite","title":"Hole Punch: Sling your spaceship around gravitational fields","snippet":null,"posted_at":"2026-10-03T18:06:45Z","likes":186}],"elsewhere":[],"window":"7d"}}
