The technology targets fibre-optic-controlled drones, which have become a major threat on the battlefield because they resist electronic jamming. Commenters are discussing whether such low-tech countermeasures can keep pace with the rapid evolution of drone warfare.","why":"Drone attacks remain a defining feature of the war, and a simple physical countermeasure is a novel development drawing attention.","tone":"neutral","entities":["Ukraine","New Scientist"],"summarized_at":"2026-10-03T17:56:01.907236Z","meta":{"via":"scan","lang":"en","link":"https://www.newscientist.com/article/2591491-ukraine-technology-thwarts-drones-by-cutting-their-control-cables/","term":"ukraine","comments":1},"nw":null,"promo":null,"kind":null,"importance":null,"hidden":false,"hide_reason":null,"judged_at":null,"title_en":"Ukraine deploys razor fence that slices attacking drones","section_name":"War","category_name":"Ukraine","timeline":[{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T11:53:51.724481Z","rank":9,"volume":6},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T13:15:51.553114Z","rank":7,"volume":7},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T14:37:51.535707Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T15:59:51.426853Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T17:22:15.231016Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T18:44:15.275927Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T20:06:56.480755Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T21:29:42.335100Z","rank":6,"volume":9},{"captured_at":"2026-10-03T22:52:05.032002Z","rank":3,"volume":9}],"posts":[{"platform":"hn","url":"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49941973","author":"0in","title":"Ukraine rolls out drone-stopping razor fence to thwart attacks","snippet":null,"posted_at":"2026-10-03T06:59:10Z","likes":9}],"elsewhere":[{"id":633467,"platform":"news","region":"global","title":"Ukraine rolls out drone-stopping razor fence to thwart attacks","last_rank":33,"last_seen":"2026-10-02T13:57:11.123782Z","summary":"Ukraine has begun rolling out razor wire fencing designed to stop drone attacks, according to New Scientist.
