Researchers, including the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics, report that theoretical physics methods have helped reveal the molecular mechanisms of extra-chromosomal DNA in tumours. These DNA fragments, found outside normal chromosomes in cancer cells, are linked to tumour evolution and drug resistance.
