Nextcloud

German encrypted email provider Tuta and Nextcloud announced a partnership integrating the Tuta app into Nextcloud, positioning the combined offering as a European alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The companies are promoting it as a digital-sovereignty option made in Germany, with the Tuta app available on Nextcloud alongside new integrations for mail, calendar and collaboration.

Users are exchanging recommendations for free and open-source Android apps available through F-Droid, responding to a Nextcloud thread. Suggestions include Aegis Authenticator for two-factor authentication, AntennaPod for podcasts, and Breezy Weather for forecasts, with a note that some apps require adding an extra repository to the F-Droid client.

Tutanota (Tuta) and Nextcloud have announced a partnership to offer a full alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The German-built, open-source combination integrates the Tuta app into Nextcloud, aiming to give users a digital sovereignty option for email, cloud storage and office tools. The offering is free of charge, and supporters are highlighting European digital independence from US tech giants as the key selling point.

A webinar replay is circulating presenting Nextcloud, the open-source collaboration platform, aimed at professionals in both the public and private sectors. The session was hosted by Jérôme Herbinet of Arawa and organised by Atol CD, covering how organisations can adopt self-hosted collaborative tools. Interest reflects growing attention on open-source alternatives for workplace collaboration.

A volunteer is assembling a team to run a workshop helping people move away from major proprietary platforms toward open-source alternatives. Planned switches include Zoom to Jitsi, OneDrive or Google Drive to Nextcloud, Google Android to GrapheneOS, and Windows to Linux, with more topics possible depending on how many helpers join. The project is at an early planning stage.
