Analysts point to Kazakhstan's post-Soviet decision to give up its nuclear arsenal and its role in arms control negotiations as lessons for resolving the Iranian standoff.

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called on nuclear-armed states to return to negotiations, marking 35 years since the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. He warned that international arms-control safeguards are weakening, arguing that the risks of renewed nuclear escalation are growing and that Kazakhstan's history makes its voice on disarmament especially relevant.

Kazakhstan is positioning itself as a possible technical partner in any deal over Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, as nuclear diplomacy around Tehran intensifies. The Central Asian state, itself a former nuclear arsenal site and major uranium producer, is signalling readiness to contribute expertise if talks turn to how Iran's nuclear material should be stored or handled.
