Classification society ABS has issued an Approval in Principle to Hanwha Ocean for a floating data center design. The approval signals that the concept meets class requirements at the design stage, marking an early but significant step toward developing offshore infrastructure that hosts computing capacity at sea. Floating data centers are attracting attention as a way to expand digital capacity while using seawater for cooling.
